Adaptive Gate Control for Wireless TSN in an Automotive Context

Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN) over automotive Ethernet is becoming the backbone of modern Software-Defined Vehicles and zonal E/E architectures. The IEEE 802.1DG-2025 profile standardizes the subset of TSN features required for in-vehicle communication with hard real-time guarantees.
At the center of this stack sits the Time-Aware Shaper (TAS), which schedules traffic through precise gate control — and is exactly where things get interesting when you move from wired to wireless links.
Goals of the thesis
Develop and evaluate an adaptive gate control approach for wireless TSN in automotive Ethernet, ensuring that TAS-based scheduling remains effective under the variable timing conditions of a wireless medium. The work builds on the IEEE 802.1Qcr (TAS) and 802.1DG (automotive profile) standards and contributes a concrete, implementable solution for predictable in-vehicle communication.
